I’ve started a monthly email newsletter collecting my writing, some of the things I’m reading, and a few other odds and ends. You can subscribe here.
What I wrote
- For Symmetry Magazine, I wrote about Entangle, an exhibit of artwork inspired by physics.
- I interviewed Jill Pipher, the new president of the American Mathematical Society and third woman president of the AMS in its 130-year history, for the Notices of the American Mathematical Society.
- On our podcast My Favorite Theorem, my cohost Kevin Knudson and I talked with Robert Ghrist about a theorem that bridges the discrete-continuous divide and Fawn Nguyen about why she loves the Pythagorean theorem.
- I reviewed David Spiegelhalter’s new book The Art of Statistics: Learning from Data for Nature.
- Please stop saying something was three times shorter or six times lighter than something else. It melts my brain. Thank you very much.
- These days, mathematicians don’t consider the number 1 to be prime. In the past, that wasn’t always the case. I dipped into the history of the number 1 as prime or non-prime and was surprised at how complicated it was.
